James Budd, O.D.

James M. Budd, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from St. Vincent College.

Graduating with highest honors, Dr. Budd taught ophthalmic and geometric optics at the Universities of Missouri & Alabama, he wrote computer programs for contact lens designing and oculomotor simulations that are still being used all over the world in optometric schools. He has also worked as a clinician at Group Health Plan near St. Louis, Missouri, and as an internal partner at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.

Dr. Budd has been in optometry since 1984 and says he became an optometrist because he likes to solve problems. He looks at a situation that needs to be fixed and tries to figure out the best possible solution to the problem.  Dr. Budd says, “Optometry lets me see the results of my efforts quickly.” He enjoys seeing the smiles on patients’ faces when they see better and enjoy their purchases.

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Budd enjoys spending time with family, music (violin, keyboard, guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, writing music), fixing things, puzzles, and watching Masterpiece Mystery.
